Preface :-

The Social Development Department works towards social inclusion, reform, and welfare among all sections of society. Its primary objective is to reduce urban poverty by providing skill development training to individuals from urban poor families, thereby offering them opportunities for employment or self-employment and improving their standard of living. It also aims to provide shelters with basic amenities for the urban homeless, implement necessary measures to address livelihood-related issues of street vendors in urban areas, and through these efforts, improve the standard of living of urban poor families and reduce urban poverty.

 

📌 The Equal Opportunities, Protection, and Participation of Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995, enacted by the Central Government,

came into effect on 01.01.1996.

📌 Under Section 40 of this Act, various schemes are implemented in the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation area through the

 Social Development Department to support persons with disabilities.

·     Organizing district level school sports competitions.  ·     Organizing various types of sports competitions at the district level and sending a detailed report of the entire competition to  the Hon. Deputy Director, Directorate of Sports and Youth ,  Mumbai Division and Hon. District Officer, Thane. ·     Organizing district level competitions and preparing certificates for the players who have achieved excellence and distributing them to them.  ·     Preparing administrative proposals on sports in accordance with the sports policy of the state government.  ·     Taking action and planning for the achievement of the objectives of sports and cultural programs.  ·     Taking action as a Public Information Officer on the application received under the Right to Information Act  2005  and submitting a monthly report to the Administration Department on the first date of every month.  ·     Organizing various sports competitions and cultural programs under the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation Mayor's Cup.  ·     Distributing sports scholarships to players who have achieved excellence in national and international competitions as per the policy of the Hon. General Assembly.  ·     Controlling the work related to the maintenance and repair of the sports complex grounds.  ·     Handling all matters falling under the Sports Department.  ·     Supplying sports equipment required for the competition and submitting necessary administrative approvals and proposals.  ·     Preparing entry forms for teams to be sent to the divisional level.  ·     Organizing district level competitions and preparing certificates for the players who have achieved excellence and distributing them.  ·     Organizing municipal inter-departmental sports competitions.  ·     Working to ensure that excellent players are produced from the municipal area.  ·     Distributing sports scholarships to players who have achieved excellence in national sports competitions.  ·     Following up to start training centers for various sports in other departments in the city as well.
