Preface :-

According to Section 63 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act , the duties of the Municipal Corporation are as follows :
·       Tree trimming and cleaning of city roads , sidewalks and spaces and removal of garbage from there .
·       Transporting , processing and disposing of waste generated from housing societies and industrial areas in the city .
·       Draining sewage by cleaning internal sewers .
·       Clearing natural drains and removing blockages before the monsoon season to allow rainwater and sewage to flow .
·       Preparing environmental status reports .
·       Taking action against plastic bags .
·       Implementing the Clean India Campaign .
For the construction of individual toilets , the beneficiaries have received a total of Rs . 22000 /- as subsidy from the Central Government , Rs . 4000 / - from the Government of Maharashtra , Rs . 8000 /- from the 14th Finance Commission, Rs . 5000 / - from the Municipal Corporation .
Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation is collecting the solid waste generated daily through the contracted vehicles that are cleaning the ward committee - wise and transporting it to the solid waste processing project site at Mouje Uttan through vehicles . Government of Maharashtra , Urban Development Department , Circular No. SWMA 2017 / Q. No. 60 / Navi - 34 , dated 29 April 2017 , as per the Solid Waste Management and Handling Rules 2016, from 01 May 2017 , a “ Solid Waste Segregation Campaign ” is being implemented to segregate the solid waste generated at the source in the entire municipal area . Accordingly , it has been made mandatory for all housing societies / schools in the city to segregate the solid waste generated in the houses on the spot and transfer it to the municipal corporation . Awareness has been created among the citizens of the city in this regard . It is getting a huge response from the citizens . As a result, there are no piles of garbage anywhere in the city . The implementation of Swachh Maharashtra Abhiyan ( Urban ) is underway in the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation area . Under this campaign Applications have been invited from citizens for the construction of individual toilets . Out of a total of 1136 eligible applications , 874 individual toilets have been constructed .

Mission , Sant Teresa Vastistar Sangh , Uttan was awarded the 03rd Excellent Cleanliness Award at the state level for implementing a cleanliness campaign in

Uttan village .

· Walls have been painted with cleanliness messages at visible places in 24 wards .

· As per the provisions of the Solid Waste Management and Handling Rules 2016 , 90 % segregation of waste generated in Mira Bhayandar city is being

done at the point of generation .

· 90% of the wet waste and dry waste is being processed .

· There are 141 public and community toilets in the city of excellent quality .

· Daily cleaning of roads , drains , door - to -door collection of garbage , transportation of collected garbage to the solid waste processing project ,

processing , etc. are carried out in the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation area . There are 1805 contract laborers and 157 vehicles for this work .

· Mira Bhayandar city is generating 480 to 500 tonnes of solid waste daily . This solid waste is being disposed of as per the “ Solid Waste Management

and Handling Act 2016 ” .

· The Municipal Corporation has been awarded the SKOCH Award, New Delhi in the year 2019 for implementing a fertilizer production project from the

daily waste collected in the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation area .

Maharashtra Plastics and Thermocol Non -Degradable Products ( Production , Use , Sale , Transport Handling and Storage ) Notification 2018 :-

Implementation of Maharashtra Plastic and Thermocol Non-Degradable Items Notification, 2018
As per the provisions of the Maharashtra Plastic and Thermocol Non-Degradable Items (Production, Use, Sale, Transport, Handling, and Storage) Notification, 2018, the following activities are strictly prohibited across the state:

The ban applies to plastic bags, disposable thermocol and plastic items, and several other restricted products.

Enforcement & Actions Taken
To implement the notification effectively, the Hon’ble Commissioner has empowered 12 Sanitation Inspectors / P. Sanitation Inspectors under Section 12 of the Maharashtra Non-Degradable Waste Control Act, 2006, through the Solid Waste Management Department.

Results (2024-25)
🚫 763 establishments penalized for violations.
📦 1,703.30 kg of plastic seized.
💰 ₹92,00,000 recovered in fines.

The campaign will continue to ensure strict compliance with the plastic ban.

Planning for areas prone to waterlogging during the rainy season :-
