Introduction: |
|
As per the Maharashtra
Municipal Corporation Act, 1949, the following responsibilities are included
under the duties of the Municipal Corporation: |
|
Management of stray dogs and
cats within the city. |
|
Management of stray animals
within the city. |
|
As per the letters issued by
the Government of Maharashtra, Urban Development Department (Navi-20), letter
no. 02004/PR No.121/Navi/20 dated 07/09/2004 and letter no. 102004/PR
No.121/Navi/20 dated 22/07/2009, on the occasion of Paryushan Parva of
the Jain community, all slaughterhouses and meat shops within the Municipal
Corporation area are to remain closed on two days – Shravan Vadya 12 and
Bhadrapad Shuddha 4. Additionally, the Municipal Corporation appeals to all
slaughterhouse and meat shop owners to voluntarily keep their shops closed on
the remaining days of Paryushan – i.e., Shravan Vadya 13 to Bhadrapad
Shuddha 3 and on Bhadrapad Shuddha 5. |

As per Government Order No.
Sankirna 10/2002/PR No.111/Navi.27, dated 28/03/2003, issued by the Urban Development Department, slaughterhouses and meat shops within the Municipal Corporation limits are to remain closed every year on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti. |

As per the Government (Home
Department) circular No.DIS0913/PR No.434/Visha1(B), dated 01/10/2014, and
by the provisions under Section 331 of the Maharashtra
Municipal Corporation Act, every year on the occasion of Bakri Eid,
temporary permissions are granted within the Municipal Corporation area for the setting up of goat markets and animal sacrifice. For pre-slaughter inspection of animals during Bakri Eid, the District
Deputy Commissioner of Animal Husbandry, Thane (Office – Mulund (W)), appoints
Livestock Development Officers as competent authorities. |
Duties: |
|
To capture stray dogs in the city, carry out
sterilization and vaccination, and appoint a contractor through
the tender process. |
|
To implement the closure of all slaughterhouses and
meat shops within the municipal area on the two days from Shravan Vadya 12
to Bhadrapad Shuddha 4, during the Paryushan festival of the Jain
community. |
|
To ensure the closure of all slaughterhouses and meat
shops within the municipal area every year on the occasion of Mahavir
Jayanti. |
|
To carry out the necessary procedures for granting temporary
permission for setting up goat markets and animal sacrifices in the
municipal area every year during Bakri Eid. |
|
To capture stray animals in the city and confine them
in animal shelters. |
|
To function as the Public Information Officer of
the Animal Husbandry Department. |
|
To perform duties as per the instructions given by the Hon.
Commissioner and Hon. Deputy Commissioner. |
