RTS - Right to Service Act
The Maharashtra Right to Service Act, 2015 was enacted to ensure that citizens of the state receive notified services from the government and its subordinate public authorities in a transparent, efficient, and timely manner. The Act came into effect on 28th April 2015, with the objective of providing citizens with easy and timely access to services.
To oversee, coordinate, and regulate the delivery of notified services to citizens, as well as to suggest improvements, the Maharashtra State Right to Service Commission has been constituted under the above Act. The Commission consists of a Chief Commissioner and six Commissioners. The headquarters of the Commission is located at the New Administrative Building, opposite the Ministry, Mumbai, and the Commissioners have offices at the headquarters of six departments.
If eligible citizens do not receive services within the stipulated time or if the service is denied without valid reasons, they can file a first and second appeal with senior authorities. If still unsatisfied, a third appeal can be made to the Commission. A penalty of up to Rs. 5000/- can be imposed on erring officials.
